Beiteddine Festival

Beiteddine Festival is one of the finest festivals in the Middle East and features the World greatest artists. It is held in a 200-year-old palace in Beiteddine, a little town in the mountainous region of the Shouf, 45 kilometers south-east of Beirut.

THE PALACE. Beiteddine Palace is a masterpiece of the early XIXth Century Lebanese architecture built by Emir Beshir Chehab II on a headland, which overlooks a terraced mountainside. No less than 36 years were necessary to complete and decorate it. [more]

PERFORMANCE AREAS. The Palace has several courtyards of which 3 are used on a regular basis during the Beiteddine Festival for perfor-mances (Al Midan, Al Salamlek, Dar el Hareem). On the other hand, a major hall has been spe-cially renovated and equipped to hold exhibitions of photographs, sculptures or paintings. [more]

ARTISTS. Since its creation, the Beiteddine Festival has presented numerous great interna-tional, regional and local artists. Among these artists are Elton John, Fairuz, José Carreras, Cesaria Evora, Maurice Bejart, Jessey Norman, Kazem al-Saher, Tito Puente, Youssou N'Dour, Montserrat Caballe, John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Placido Domingo… [more]

Getting to Beiteddine. Beiteddine is accessible via two main routes: one route goes South from Beirut and then turns Eastward at Damour and back towards the Northeast to get to Beiteddine; the second route by which Beiteddine is accessible goes up the mountains following the Damascus highway and then turns into the Chouf mountains at Mudairej and passing below the Barouk Cedars. The Shouf area, at the heart of which lies Beiteddine Palace, is a splendid region that offers to the visitor numerous preserved historic, architectural, and natural attractions. [more]
